There are many different forms of impact and impact resistance. TIVAR® 88 displays excellent blunt force impact resistance. This type of impact resistance is highlighted by the example to the right which shows the blunt force of an ocean freighter banging solidly against the surface of TIVAR®. This type of impact is ideal for TIVAR®, even in extreme sub-zero temperatures. The dock fender facing application demonstrates many of the performance properties of TIVAR® in that the sliding friction of TIVAR® allows the ocean freighter to slide up and down with tidal changes (low coefficient of friction) (slide abrasion wear resistance) and material corrosion resistance from being immersed in salt water with nil water absorption.
Impact Abrasion
What is Impact Abrasion?
How Impact Resistant is TIVAR® 88?
Impact abrasion is a major part of bulk material handling. It occurs at conveyor transition points, along with loading zones and elbows. This type of repetitive impact and angular impingement, as pictured below left, is not suitable or recommended for TIVAR® 88, as it will yield a reduce service life. Hybrid lining systems can be developed were impact plates such stainless steel, abrasion resistant steel or chromium carbide can be inlaid into the TIVAR® 88 for addressing these repetitive impact zones. The picture below right is an example of pre-fabricated TIVAR 88® ESD chute liner with a piece of stainless steel plate inlaid into the liner for the loading zone.
